Before you know anything about me, you probably want to know about “The Grizzly Unicorn”.
The backstory is quite simple.
Everyone has that one friend or family member you might need to “warn” others about when introducing them. Yeah, that’s often me, and even I will tell new colleagues at work a few things to keep in mind. I look much meaner than I am…best RBF in the office, but that’s from being the father of a teenage daughter, and it helped keep the boys at bay. I am much more approachable than I may look.
The second is to focus on what I say, not HOW I say it. This only means I don’t sugarcoat things and try to speak straight. It’s usually direct, and it may seem harsh at the time, but the purpose is not to hurt feelings but to communicate as clearly as possible.
Aside from all of that, I’m often the person you come to to get things done, and if I don’t know how to do it, I’ll figure it out. Generation X would be reminded of “MacGyver.”
So now, knowing all of this, it’s no wonder I had a supervisor once refer to me as “our grizzly unicorn.”
Now, the real reason you’re here is that you need a photographer!
I have been behind the lens of a camera for more than 30 years. While most photographers tend to specialize in either still or video, I feel I am a rare breed (see unicorn) in that I can do both.
Cutting my teeth as a videographer, I learned to shoot baseball highlights as a single camera standing near the on-deck circle of then Disch-Falk Field at the University of Texas for a local television station. From there, my passion for all sports has taken me to multiple collegiate and professional championships, multiple College World Series, NCAA Basketball, NFL, and NBA games, and several high school playoff and state championships.
I was blessed with a natural eye to capture the moment; I photographed my kids’ sporting events with a borrowed still camera. It was then that I realized that while doing so, several parents were trying to do the same, but often from the stands, and that my experience gave me an edge. I also wanted to help them enjoy the experience.
In 2017, after many years as a freelance videographer, I invested in my own equipment and began perfecting the still camera, and not long after, launched Gray Moore Photography.
